Two Cold Atoms in a Harmonic Trap 1

چکیده
Two ultracold atoms moving in a trap interact weakly at a very short distance. This interaction can be modeled by a properly regularized contact potential. We solve the corresponding time{independent Schrr odinger equation under the assumption of a parabolic, spherically symmetric trapping potential.

Spin-orbit coupling and perpendicular Zeeman field for fermionic cold atoms: Observation of the intrinsic anomalous Hall effect
We propose a scheme for generating Rashba spin-orbit coupling and a perpendicular Zeeman field simultaneously for cold fermionic atoms in a harmonic trap through the coupling between atoms and laser fields. The realization of Rashba spin-orbit coupling and a perpendicular Zeeman field provides opportunities for exploring many topological phenomena using cold fermionic atoms. We focus on the int...
متن کاملCold fermionic atoms in two-dimensional traps: pairing versus Hund's rule.
The microscopic properties of few interacting cold fermionic atoms confined in a two-dimensional (2D) harmonic trap are studied by numerical diagonalization. For repulsive interactions, a strong shell structure dominates, with Hund's rule acting at its extreme for the midshell configurations. In the attractive case, odd-even oscillations due to pairing occur simultaneously with deformations in ...
متن کاملMultiscale quantum-defect theory for two interacting atoms in a symmetric harmonic trap
We present a multiscale quantum-defect theory for two identical atoms in a symmetric harmonic trap that combines the quantum-defect theory for the van der Waals interaction B. Gao, Phys. Rev. The theory provides a systematic understanding of two atoms in a trap, from deepl...
متن کاملObservation of a persistent non-equilibrium state in cold atoms
Boltzmann noticed that his transport equation predicts special cases in which gases never reach thermal equilibrium. One example is the monopole breathe mode of atoms confined in a perfectly isotropic three-dimensional (3D) harmonic potential1. Such a complete absence of damping had not been observed in nature, and this anomaly weakened Boltzmann’s then-controversial claim to have established a...
متن کاملMagnetic trapping of a cold Rb-Cs atomic mixture
We present an apparatus for the study of an ultracold gaseous atomic mixture of Cs and Rb. The mixture is prepared using a double magneto-optical trap (MOT) system in which a two-species pyramid MOT acts as a source of cold atoms for a ‘science’ MOT. Measurements of the interspecies trap loss rate coefficients βRbCs and βCsRb in the science MOT are reported. After the initial MOT phase, atoms i...
